Quick Neem Tip: Rich and Heavy

// August 19th, 2010 // No Comments » // Neem Facts

Pure neem oil is and should be a very heavy and rich oil. It will also have a strong smell. If your neem oil does not seem very rich and heavy, then it is possible it has been diluted with another oil or was heavily damaged during the pressing process.

Neem: A Potent Insect Spray

// August 14th, 2010 // No Comments » // Pests

The Spring, Summer and Fall are great times of the year to venture outdoors. Everywhere people are hiking, cooking out, swimming, and much more. Many do not venture outside for the fear of being bitten by mosquitoes, ticks, fleas and mites though. Certainly there are plenty of body sprays that help to control insect bites. But as you know, most of them on the main market are full of very toxic chemicals.

The good news is pure neem contains 100% natural substances that help to deter these pesky insects that cause problems when hanging out outdoors. It is usually best to combine the oil with a non sweet carrier oil to dilute it and maybe add some aromatic oils for a better and less robust smell. There are a few pre-mixed products on the market for the ‘not so do it yourselfer’. Just make sure that the product is 100% natural. Call the company if you must, know there sources. Your skin is an organ, when you put something on it you will soak it into the rest of your body. By going with neem to protect yourself outdoors, you are choosing to do your body and the planet a world of good.

Cold Pressed Neem Oil

So what does it mean when people say that their neem oil is cold pressed? Cold pressing oils have been done since the beginning of time. Usually the seed that makes the oil was pressed right there in the home using some sort of mashing tools made from stone typically. It would have been rare to ever have found an oil that was heat pressed. But now a days many companies find no qualms about pressing their oils using heated processes. Many times this heat can significantly damage the oil causing it to go rancid and loose much of its healing quality, depending on the oil type.

With neem oil it has been found best to get it from a cold pressed type of process. There are very few standards that exist when it comes to cold pressing though. So if you really want to know how your oil is processed, you may realize it is better to contact the company to find out. The higher the quality the neem product, the more likely you will find that you benefit from its powerful healing qualities. So if the neem oil you are using does not state that it is cold pressed, you may want to find out just how it is processed. Never be afraid to contact the company to ask questions. You pay good money for their products and you have the right to know.

Products with Neem in Them

// July 17th, 2010 // No Comments » // Toiletries

There are loads of products out there that market the fact that they contain neem in them. Why this can certainly be a huge benefit, it does not necessarily mean that those products are completely natural to use. One rule of thumb to consider is to try and go organic. The next thing you may want to look for is if it contains ingredients that you cannot pronounce. You will want to also stay away from products that still use toxic parabens. Fragrances can also be bad; keep in mind the product should only contain 100% natural occurring items in it.

Neem does not have to be the first ingredient in the product either. It will more than likely not be. Neem is so powerful and potent that it does not take much to do the job. Too much of it can give the product a strong smell and taste. Do some research on what products are worth buying when they claim to contain neem. Research these companies, their processes and the ingredients they use. In the end you will end up with a much better product for you and your family to use.
